By necessity, relegated to the tail-end of the bonfire procession, the Firecarts provide one of the most atmospheric pieces of 'street theatre' with their fiery finale.

Just a few moments to represent the sad passing of John Hunnisett. John had an encyclopedic knowledge of so many things and will be irreplaceable as a mine of information of all things local, and will be sorely missed by so many...Farewell, to John...the memory man.

Fantastic 👍
Just saw a vid from a 1984 Crime watch of a murder in Hastings in December 1983.
Lived at eversfield place in 1983 Hastings punk & skins We all used to meet at the Memorial in the town centre Happy days.
Johnny was a good friend and colleague of mine. Can't believe I never saw this before.
August 4th 1965 my mom was there. She was 18 years old and appears a couple of times in video. A close up starting at 1:01. She first saw it on a BBC 3 60s programme. She remembered it.
Forever young - and awesome!
I'm hoping after all this madness I'll be helping with touch making. I'm really beginning to miss everyone. Can't wait to get back around that bonfire and have a drink and chat with friends.
Thanks for sharing with us your vid - Looking back I wished I'd filmed it for now for some reason. Years ago our local Hastings Observer used to do area pictures and print one a week in their paper - they did one of the Broomsgrove area when the chimneys were there - I have tried to search for this particular picture but cannot find.
I was there I was playing football while I was waiting next to the park
Used to get taken to Hastings on day trips as a boy and enjoyed every minute. We also had a two week holiday in the Summer of 1981, we stayed in a slightly rundown hotel in St Leonard's right on the seafront. Two smashing weeks with great weather and lots to do. I went back in 1995 with my wife and baby daughter and the town was beginning to look a bit tired and rundown. Haven't been back since as people have said it's not very nice there now, I suppose I should go and make my own mind up...
What a great video!! I can't believe I'm the first to comment. I love the people patiently waiting, and the atmosphere building. I was up The Firehills to watch this, as I was on the West Hill the time before, and it was PACKED!! This it gives a quintessentially English summer scene, and paints Hastings in a lovely light. Well done.
Great video. Thanks for sharing it
I was there in 1966 und 1967. Wonderful location.
Wow Alison
Proper riot girl vibe
My god the battle of Hastings in 64 - I was there aged 15. I was only there because I was visiting a girl who lived local. Next thing I know I'm fighting to stay on my feet as I was being attacked by a mob of rockers. As quickly as the rockers appeared so did approx 8 or 9 mods - they saved me from a kicking. Eventually when I found my girlfriend - I surgested we make love not war but her dad wouldn't let us. Dunno why - maybe he didn't like Mancunians.
Thanks for the resonse Alan. I'm Andrew's brother, Steve. We both went to Hastings Museum when the exhibition opened. I was 17 in 1964 and was in hopital....100 yards from the Museum ! that very weekend. I had a compound fracture (I've still got a plate in my leg) and didn't get out of hospital for six weeks, So this exhibit was a bitter-sweet reminder of the period. During those weeks a new venue opened. "The Witch-Doctor" Club and apparently one of the first groups were The Animals and subsequently The Who performed there .....not being 'cool' I only saw the inside of the place on two occasions but a mate of mine, Colin Gilchrist (he bought himself a Lambretta GT and became a Mod) is in a clip which featured in a documentary. I put the bit on Andrew's site...it's a bit sad for me because Colin passed away a couple of years ago so it's a very brief memento. Look out for a chubby sweaty face, leaning back; with his eyes closed and swaying to the music. (His moment of Fame ? 1.5 seconds)
@@xhastingsguyx G'day Andrew - amazing where we all end up - I'm now living in Australia. Left England in 1970 , been here ever since. Sorry to hear about your brother and mate, I lost my brother along the way and left behind friends that past to soon, I suppose death is apart of life if you get my drift I just hope there is a rock n roll heaven when it's my turn. AS for Whit Sunday I was there on the promenade just before midday, I saw mods and the riff raff rockers charge towards each other down on the beach. Quite a few mods came off second best as I recall, that's when I got myself down onto the beach. Where we all reformed, I was in the second ' battle' lmao. Before we ran at them I shouted to all the Mods ' Take no Prisoners ' trying to rally the troops. Holly Shit - Andrew the second battle - fuck yes! There must be others out there who fought on both sides. So how did you end up in hospital anyway? Talk soon - take care buddy.
Sorry one more question. I live in a weird weather pattern place when our hose is hot sometimes and cold most of the times how would I regulate the temperature and humidity
Fire salamanders do best with a daytime temperature that ranges between 60°F (16°C) and 68°F (20°C). During the night the temperature can fall to 55°F (13°C) or below without problems. They are not tolerant of warm temperatures and stress easily when exposed to those above 70°F (21°C) for extended days or weeks. I hope this information will help you.
You can use a spray bottle of water to keep the humidity down make sure there's no chlorine in the water.
If you would like to handle a salamander often should you wear gloves?
Yes, always use gloves, they are very susecptible to our toxins.
Andrew Clifton hi sorry how many roaches should you feed the salamander per feeding days? and it’s every other day right?
Crickets and small earth worms can make up the majority of their diet. Slugs, wax worms, silkworms, roaches, and small caterpillars can also be offered occasionally. A feeding schedule of three to five feeders every three or four days works well for adult animals. Juveniles should be fed more often.
Sprinkle food with calcium supplement daily and a multi-vitamin supplement once or twice a week.
Andrew Clifton thank you
Alright girls, own up,who was it that burned down Levetleigh??
Looking at this I realise how much our council have ruined Hastings since the 80s. Good video. Thank you
Great vid! Great occasion! Great atmosphere as always
Thanks for the appreciation Greg. Steve did the edit, but I got some video with my stills camera...including a clip of your efforts in The Bourne.
Brilliant .Should be on the ONE show.x.BRILLIANT! x
Yes Bernard, a wonderful family group...incidentally the conditions that night were FREEZING! so their performance was heroic.

Yes Neil,it's hard to believe he's gone.
Superb footage. I miss him.
Now new housing i see on Google streetview. I remember these well. Brought up in Hastings from 1981-2001.
There's no houses there... yet. Its currently wasteland occupied by a youth/community project. I was standing on that very land just today.
@@olliedollyscarlett.x1930 2022 Update, I believe there are houses being built on part of it now, haven't been there to check it out yet though.
